COLUMBUS TEAM WINS NATIONAL HIGH
SCHOOL CASE COMPETITION
COLUMBUS, OHIO (June 26, 2008) - The National Black MBA Association’s Seventh
Annual Leaders of Tomorrow® (LOT) Case Competition, sponsored nationally by
ExxonMobil, was held on Saturday, June 20 on the campus of Fisher College of
Business at The Ohio State University. The local event sponsor was Nationwide
Insurance.
The Columbus, Ohio chapter of NBMBAA hosted more than 90 high school students
from 16 local NBMBAA chapters from across the nation including Dallas,
Philadelphia and Miami.
The first-place team, which collected a scholarship prize of $6,000, was the
Columbus chapter team. Team members were Azubike Akunne, Krystal Harrison,
Antwoine Meyers, Nikki Moore and Alexandria Seybold
Other winning teams were:
• Second place: Washington, D.C. chapter team ($4,000)
• Third place: Dallas, Texas chapter team ($3,000)
• Fourth place: Houston, Texas chapter team
“The competition enabled students to demonstrate their knowledge,
problem-solving skills, analytical proficiency and presentation abilities for
corporate executives from around the country and Fisher professors judging the
competition,” said LuTonda Baumgardner, Columbus Chapter chair for this year’s
LOT competition and manager of Human Resources for Express.
NBMBAA’s Leaders of Tomorrow program offers mentorship and leadership
development activities for high school students nationwide.
“The LOT program and the case competition help NBMBAA meet its mission of
creating a brain trust of the most talented minority students and provide
opportunities for them to interact with business professionals,” said David
Harrison, director of Minority Student Services at Fisher College of Business.
Executives from major corporations including Limited Brands, Nationwide
Insurance and Fisher College of Business served as judges for the competition.
